Microsoft has been steadily introducing AI-powered enhancements to Windows 11 over the past few months. Now, it appears that the tech giant is preparing to unveil a new feature called ‘AI Explorer’.

According to a recent report by Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, AI Explorer could become a key selling point for AI-equipped PCs, distinguishing them from their non-AI counterparts. The upcoming Surface 10 Pro and Surface Laptop 6, expected to launch on March 21, might be among the first devices to showcase this feature.

So, what exactly is AI Explorer? It’s an advanced iteration of Copilot, integrated directly into Windows 11. AI Explorer maintains a comprehensive history of your actions on the PC, making everything you do searchable. Whether you’re looking for previously opened images, web pages, or conversations, AI Explorer has you covered.

But that’s not all. AI Explorer can handle vague prompts like “Find me that thing about dinosaurs.” It understands context, suggests relevant tasks based on the current context, and even kickstarts workflows and projects.

For instance, imagine opening a photo. AI Explorer might offer an “edit image” button or provide options like “remove the image’s background using the Photos app.”

Beyond AI Explorer, Microsoft has more AI-powered features in the pipeline. These include Windows Studio Effects, real-time live captions and translation, and game upscaling with frame rate smoothing. Expect these enhancements to arrive in the second half of the year as part of Windows 11 version 24H2.
