Mission:
The Utility Distribution Power Line Designer’s mission is to collaborate with a team of designers to develop efficient and reliable distribution lines and execute necessary design tasks. The intern will support activities to ensure project schedules are maintained, budgets are adhered to, and client satisfaction is achieved.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Accompany designers on site visits to assess work requirements (e.g., poles, conductors, equipment condition)
- Utilize GIS data to design overhead and underground distribution networks
- Assist in preparing construction drawings using AutoCAD or Microstation for proposed distribution systems
- Complete applications for municipality construction permits
- Review designs for third-party attachments on utility poles and assist in the approval process
- Support engineering team in ensuring accuracy and quality control of designs before project release
- Assist in ensuring completed work meets engineering and construction standards
Qualifications:
- College student in Electrical Engineering or Power Utility related field
- Clear and effective communication skills
- Working knowledge of Power Utility projects and construction practices is advantageous
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) is advantageous
- Valid driver’s license is advantageous
