Job Description
As a Research Intern at Microsoft Research, candidates will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment alongside world-class researchers and engineers. This internship provides a platform for developing and implementing cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven infrastructure. Collaborating with teams in Vancouver, Canada, and Redmond, Washington, interns will contribute to the creation of next-generation AI infrastructure, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI-driven infrastructure, implementing prototypes and conducting simulations for testing and validation.
  • Conduct thorough research on emerging trends in AI software and hardware infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, integrating ideas with existing and future AI projects.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation of simulations, methodologies, and findings, presenting results to team members and stakeholders.
  • Identify challenges and bottlenecks in AI infrastructure, proposing innovative solutions.

Qualifications
Required:

  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Physical presence at the manager’s Microsoft worksite location throughout the internship.

Preferred:

  • Proficient analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in machine learning concepts and models.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch and programming skills in C/C++ or Python.
  • Passion for solving real-world large-scale infrastructure problems with AI Models.
  • Experience with AI infrastructure or LLM would be a plus.

Duration and Location
Hybrid Internship, with a duration of 12 weeks. Location: Microsoft offices in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and Redmond, Washington, USA.

Compensation
Interns at Microsoft Research typically receive a base pay range of CAD $8,500 – CAD $9,500 per month. Additional pay information can be found here.
